'Hotel For The Birds' by Thomas Schutte will be made from Perspex. The artist says: "What pigeons will do to the material is not quite clear".

149/158

'Alison Lapper Pregnant' by Marc Quinn will be made of marble and be 4.7m tall. Mr Quinn said he wanted a sculpture showing disability like Nelson, who only has one arm.

148/158

Stefan Gec's 'Mannequin' is two life-size Tomahawk cruise missiles made from wood. He says he wants to link "Nelson's powerful naval fleet with a symbol of contemporary warfare".

147/158

'No-o-war-r No-o-war-r' by Sokari Douglas Camp will be made of stainless steel and is a tribute to the square's "history of famous protest speeches ".

146/158

Sarah Lucas, creator of 'This One's For The Pigeons', hopes local pigeons will "organically develop" the piece. She says it shows the "hopelessness" of trying to keep the birds under control.

145/158

Chris Burden's 'Toy Skyscraper As A Tall Building' will be seven metres in height. He said: "Viewers will undoubtedly be reminded of New York's destroyed World Trade Center."

Even brainy artists luck out with serendipity, someone told me today that Wallinger didn't even know that the Horse is the symbol for Kent, (Ebsfleet Probe 02) Wallinger has got some bad press in conversation with various artists - I have to remain objective, but his work "A real work of art" was seminal for me and I have a real soft-spot for this public sculpture hogging stalwart.

KADN Kiosk© Kieren Reed & Abigail Hunt ©

Kiosks are ace they sum up utopia in an object that is mobile and accessible whilst being a power point that is substantial enough to allow people to stop, learn, interact and revolt. Rodchenko will be smiling up there.

The audience are able to visit the kiosk, either because they have heard about the project or because they simply come across it within the space. It has been deliberately constructed so it can be locked up safely and securely at night, but can also be dismantled easily in the manner of a ‘flat-pack’ structure – much like many of the kiosk structures it simulates. Documentation of the kiosk is also a vital element to the work. The project has almost a ‘performance’ element for which the kiosk itself acts as a tool to produce the work, finally being seen as an art object or relic after the events which happen in or around it.
Reed and Hunt’s concepts relate to the importance of the participation of the viewer and the collaboration between them as artists and their audience, as well as the blurred boundaries as to when and where collaboration happens, both with the audience and between other artists, be it directly or indirectly. In this, the kiosk will also become the site for, or initiation of a series of programmed events and workshops where the audience will be invited to participate in discussion and making. One of their main interests is in exploring the idea of primary and secondary audiences. The kiosk project in its essence creates two different audiences – one which was directly involved in interacting with it and one which may only see the results of that interaction. This notion which is rooted in the very idea of collaboration raises many issues about public voices, agency and audience manipulation, and exploring it is one of the main aims of the work.© - www.kadn.co.uk

Mark Foo was a big wave surfer. One of the best. A self-confessed fame addict he courted the press, and was a well featured surfer in film, documentary, magazines and even cable TV. He commented often and was quoted saying to die doing something you love would not be a bad way to go.

THE RED SHED -

Does an architecture that challenges procedural norms (an architecture of initiative/participation) have to have its own aesthetic? Does an architecture of provisionality have to look provisional? Or, to be blunt, how do we avoid red shed syndrome? (Red shed syndrome came to me after a two day symposium of international alternative practice, in which a common feature of the presentations was a shed, often red, the best ones on wheels).

Mr Musa, the owner of Etoile Limousines in Paris, rented the car to Mohamed al Fayed, the Harrod and Paris Ritz owner and Dodi's father.

Mr Musa said: "It is an exceptional wreck - like the one James Dean died in. We were told it was worth at least £1 million. It belongs to us. At first I was thinking it should have been given to Mohamed al Fayed because his son, Dodi, died in it.

"Then I thought maybe it should be put in a museum. Now I want to sell it. We've been told a lot of people would pay a fortune for the wreck. We have never had any firm inquiries about it, but people have spoken to me about how much it could be worth."

'I hear today that the Government are releasing information on the timetabling of Identity card introduction. Today, Ministers were selling the scheme as a way of preventing fraud (whereas up until now it's been touted as away of preventing terrorism.....so a bit of a change of heart?) Most of this country's citizens are law abiding and I'm at a loss as to why the majority should have their civil liberties impinged upon because of a minority criminal element. Mores to the point, determined fraudsters will find a way around any system put in place because they always do....and let's face it.....our sensitive information isn't safe in the hands of the Government anyway. They'll just leave it lying around for the next fraudster who wants it!- think child benefit records)

As the most surveyed nation in the world, I hardly think we need more restrictions. I also can't believe that people are buying into the Governments propaganda that they are doing this to 'protect' us (if not against fraud then against terrorism.....or any other excuse they might deem necessary to persuade us!) I also find it hard to swallow that people are lying down to take this infringement of civil liberties. I for one will not be giving up my personal data for the Government to use or abuse in any way they see fit. If this doesn't feel scary enough for people then maybe you should be having a look at '1984' by George Orwell.'

From Spanish plazas to Parisian metros, American tourists are being quizzed, grilled and even spat on by people who do not approve of the Bush administration's drive for a war against Saddam Hussein.

As a result, a declining number of Americans (54% today vs. 79% a year ago) believes that the USA enjoys a favorable image abroad, according to a recent Gallup poll. And a majority of Americans (64%) cite a fear of unfriendliness as the top concern of traveling abroad during wartime, according to a survey in the February issue of Conde Nast Traveler.
